"A Past and a Future with Science: Possibilities and Limitations" da parte del premio Nobel per la fisica Gerard 't Hooft

Il 28 giugno 2025, gli Scientiae Fabri, in collaborazione con la Fondazione della Comunità Salernitana Ets, hanno organizzato alla Pinacoteca Provinciale di Salerno un seminario divulgativo (in inglese) tenuto dal premio Nobel per la fisica Prof. Gerard 't Hooft. Il seminario si è concentrato su passato e futuro del progresso scientifico e sull'impatto che quest'ultimo ha avuto e potrà avere sulla società.

Gerard ’t Hooft può essere considerato uno dei fisici teorici più influenti, se non il più influente, della seconda metà del XX secolo. Ha ricevuto il Premio Nobel per la Fisica nel 1999 per “aver chiarito la struttura quantistica delle interazioni elettrodeboli” , gettando le basi teoriche per la comprensione delle particelle elementari e le forze fondamentali della natura. Oltre alla sua attività scientifica, Gerard ’t Hooft ha una forte influenza sulla divulgazione, riuscendo a rendere accessibili al pubblico concetti profondi della fisica moderna e ispirando profondamente diverse generazioni di scienziati.

Titolo: A past and a Future with Science: Possibilities and Limitations

Abstract: Further progress in science may well give us fantastic changes in our world, which of course will be difficult to predict. But the way science works is that most often, science will tell us what will definitely not happen. So it is the loopholes that we want to know about. We also turn to the past: did anyone predict the power of our telephones and tablets that we are all using now? Are there more such things that no-one is thinking about today, but may be lurking around the corner?

Gli Scientiae Fabri hanno rivolto un ringraziamento speciale a Gerard 't Hooft per le sue fondamentali scoperte scientifiche ed il suo ruolo chiave nell'ispirare generazioni di scienziati.
